Finding a place to screen movies

4 01 2010

So here’s what we’re gonna do:

I’m gonna start advertising this on Facebook, and we want your input, because we want to show you awesome movies.  We are still working on securing a lecture hall to screen movies, but we likely won’t be able to figure that out until Wednesday or Thursday.   If we can’t secure one, we’re gonna use one of the lounges – probably whichever has the nicest couches/TV.  Which brings us to this question, which you can answer in the comments: if we fail at getting a lecture hall (or Wilder 101 or some kind of room with a giant screen and chairs), where should we screen evening movies?  Post your answer in the comments (this could be entirely moot if we can get a screening room, but it’s nice to figure out a backup just in case).

What we’ll be doing is at the beginning of each week, we’ll post a list of which movies we’ll be watching.  Then, each day, we’ll post a poll of the two movies we’ll be watching the next day, and you can vote on which one you want us to screen.  That’s the movie we’ll show in the evening, and all are welcome to come!

I leave for Oberlin tomorrow, so I probably won’t update until Tuesday evening-ish, but if there are any questions… Emily can take care of them.  Now to tell her that :D

The First Post…

25 12 2009

So yeah, there will be more to come here.

Basically, this is a blog written by two college freshmen (Brendan and Emily) to track the progress of our winter term January 2010.  The basic outline of our project is thus:  We are taking the AFI Top 100 list, picking out some of the best and brightest among these hallowed films from each decade, then we will watch them.  Our plan is to watch something in the order of 40 to 50 films over four weeks, starting the week of January 4th and ending the last week of January.  As we watch films, we’ll be updating this blog with film reviews, reflections, comparisons, etc. etc.  So nothing much will be posted here yet, but soon things will come!

If you are an Oberlin student and you want to watch these films with us, feel free!  We’ll be posting what films we’ll be watching each week on here, and where we’ll be watching them.  Right now we’re hoping to get access to a lecture hall on campus (probably in the science center) so that we can hold open screenings of the films, but we’re not entirely sure we can yet, so we’ll keep you posted.  If we can’t get a lecture hall, we’ll probably hold screenings in whichever dorm common room has the nicest TV.

Anyway, we’ll keep you posted.  For now, time to get back to the festivities.  Have a happy Festivus, everybody!

-Brendan
